Sagittarius New Moon

Today, we have a New Moon in Sagittarius at 9 degrees, a time for fresh starts and new intentions. The day before a New Moon often feels introspective, inviting us to reflect on the past month. It’s an opportunity to reflect on what’s been working, what hasn’t, and what we’re ready to let go of while deciding what to carry forward into the next lunar cycle.

The New Moon in Sagittarius brings themes of optimism, expansion, adventure, and finding meaning and purpose in life. This is big picture energy, encouraging us to believe that anything is possible and set intentions for how we want our lives to unfold. It might involve travelling to distant places, exploring other cultures and their beliefs, trying new foods, or enrolling in a course to expand your knowledge.

Sagittarius, represented by the archer aiming his arrow into the future, symbolises forward thinking and new horizons. It’s normally an ideal time to initiate new projects aligned with these areas. However, with Mercury currently retrograde, expect delays and a lack of immediate progress. Be patient as things unfold.

Mercury retrograde, is the perfect moment to ponder, reflect and revise. Mercury rules communication, as well as how we think, speak, learn, and process information. It also governs short-distance travel, transportation, and the flow of news and information. So, you might notice these themes coming up for reassessment. Be mindful of how you communicate with yourself and others, as misunderstandings are more likely, and important details may still be unclear. Take the time to think before speaking, as clarity may feel harder to come by. Also, pay attention to what you hear in the collective.  Take time to reflect and carefully evaluate any information you encounter, as it may be distorted during this period.

It's also wise to avoid starting new projects while Mercury is retrograde. Instead, focus on behind-the-scenes work and preparation. If possible, hold off on launching anything new until after the retrograde ends on December 16th.

As someone ruled by Mercury, I’ve noticed that Mercury retrograde often causes delays for me, like flat tyres or travel delays. Mercury rules transportation, so it’s no surprise! Every retrograde, there’s some kind of issue with short trips. You might also see delays with public transport or flights during this time. The energy is strong, so it’s a good idea to slow down, double check plans, and be ready for unexpected delays.

There is one unique energetic opportunity that we can all use for positive manifestation. “woohoo” I want you to mark your calendar for December 6th, at 12:47pm ACDT, when Mercury Cazimi occurs. This is a moment when Mercury comes before the king of the solar system, the Sun, amplifying Mercury’s energy. During a Mercury Cazimi, Mercury is retrograde and closest to Earth, making it a powerful time for manifesting "Mercury themes." Use this time now to reassess and prepare so you can channel this powerful energy into setting your intentions clearly when the alignment happens.

At the time of the New Moon, it forms a supportive trine to Mars, which provides the drive and energy to take initiative. However, the square to Saturn could slow things down or highlight areas where patience and persistence are required. If you feel like the brakes are on, know that this restrictive energy will ease off just in time for Mars to turn retrograde on Saturday the 7th, slowing things down once again. This event, occurring roughly every two years, will last until February the 21st, 2025.

During this time, it’s an ideal opportunity to reassess our goals, motivations, and actions. While this process can feel frustrating and unproductive, it’s essential to work with the energy rather than resist it. Mars, the planet of energy and drive, can feel out of sync during retrograde, making it harder to initiate, take action, or push forward with plans. Expect potential delays and frustrations, which could lead to heightened tempers as Mars comes closest to Earth, amplifying its intensity. Use this time to reflect, regroup, and refine your approach.

At the time of the New Moon, the energy is further amplified with a message of "just wait." As its ruler, Jupiter, is opposite Mercury, which is currently in retrograde, and square to Saturn. This configuration emphasises a tension between expansive, big-picture thinking and the limitations imposed by Saturn. Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde suggests we lack all the necessary information to see the path forward clearly.

The Moon in Sagittarius, typically eager to expand, explore, and take risks, is being encouraged to slow down and avoid impulsive decisions. This energy calls for responsibility and careful consideration before taking action. For those with strong Sagittarius placements, this can feel particularly challenging, as it tests their natural inclination toward freedom and adventure. Patience and strategic thinking are key to navigating this tricky and testing energy.

So, as you can see the energy is confusing right now, so try to go with the flow rather than resist it. Avoid reacting impulsively and use this time to reflect, revise, and plan. If you feel tempted to push forward, remember there’s a reason to pause, focus on restructuring what isn’t working with patience and resilience.
