This month brings a powerful lunar eclipse at 23 degrees of Virgo, occurring at 5:24 pm Adelaide time on March 14th. According to www.timeanddate.com, only part of the eclipse will be visible from South Australia.
Full moons illuminate what was hidden, and lunar eclipses amplify this energy — like a full moon on steroids. An eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the Sun and Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon, while the Sun and Moon align with the lunar nodes: the South Node (representing old habits and past-life patterns) and the North Node (our path forward and soul’s growth).
This eclipse brings attention to the South Node, highlighting what’s familiar but no longer serves us. It’s a chance to release outdated behaviors and step into more evolved versions of ourselves. Eclipse energy is intense, often marking endings, new beginnings, and life-changing shifts that ripple for the next six months. Anything that leaves your life now is likely meant to stay gone — even if it feels uncomfortable, it’s clearing space to realign you with your soul’s purpose.
If you have personal planets or points near 23 degrees of Virgo — or the other mutable signs (Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces) — you’ll feel this eclipse more strongly. Those with planets around the 1st (self), 4th (home), 7th (relationships), or 10th (career) houses may also experience significant shifts. As this is a lunar eclipse the sign of Cancer will also feel the eclipse energy as the moon rules Cancer.
Virgo Energy and Shadow Work
Virgo, an earth sign, is practical, analytical, and service-oriented — but its shadow side can lean into perfectionism, overwork, self-criticism, and rigid routines. This eclipse invites you to release those tendencies:
Let go of the need to have everything perfect before you start. Perfectionism can hold you back.
Shift from critical self-talk to positive affirmations.
Break free from unhealthy habits or rigid routines — embrace balance and flexibility.
Stop overextending yourself for others and prioritise your own well-being.
At its core, this eclipse is about releasing Virgo’s shadow and embracing a more compassionate, balanced, and empowered version of yourself.
Saturn’s Seesaw: Finding Balance Between Self-Doubt and Self-Mastery
Opposite the Virgo eclipse, we find Saturn — the heavy, karmic planet of discipline, hard work, self-criticism, and societal responsibilities. Oppositions work like a seesaw: we swing from one extreme to the other. Don’t be surprised if you feel an extra weight on your shoulders during this time.
On the positive side, Saturn ultimately wants you to succeed. It pushes you to reach your potential, gain wisdom, and master your life. This energy gives you the power to shift from a negative, self-critical "not good enough" mindset into one of self-mastery — creating lasting, meaningful improvements that are authentic to your life.
Uranus: The Unexpected Ally
This Virgo eclipse forms a supportive trine with Uranus, the planet of surprises and breakthroughs. Uranus encourages authenticity and innovation — helping you break free from perfectionism (something I personally resonate with!). If you feel stuck, this energy can support spontaneous release, helping you let go and flow more freely in life.
Look to your rising sign to see where the eclipse energy will land in your chart:
Aries Rising — 6th House
The 6th house is all about daily routines, work, health, and service to others. This eclipse may bring a release or shift in how you approach these areas of life. It could manifest as a change in your daily habits, such as adopting a healthier diet, starting an exercise routine, or letting go of practices that no longer support your well-being.
You might also find yourself reassessing how you serve others — whether in your work life or personal life. If you’ve been overextended or neglecting your own needs in the name of service, this eclipse could prompt a recalibration, encouraging you to create more balance between work, health, and self-care. It's an invitation to step into a more sustainable and fulfilling routine that honours your well-being.
Taurus Rising — 5th House
The 5th house governs creativity, self-expression, joy, and romance — it’s where we play, create, and let our hearts lead. This eclipse may bring a powerful release or shift in these areas. It could prompt you to let go of old creative projects that no longer resonate with who you are now or inspire you to rethink how you seek pleasure and fun in life. Maybe you find yourself drifting away from a favourite hangout spot, hobby, or pastime that no longer fills your cup the way it used to.
Virgo’s influence here — a sign known for its practicality and self-criticism — might have kept you holding back from fully expressing yourself. This eclipse could be the push you need to silence that inner critic. It’s time to stop telling yourself you’re not good enough and embrace your creative spark unapologetically.
In romance, you might experience shifts too. Old patterns or outdated relationship dynamics may fall away, making space for more authentic, heart-centered connections. For some, this eclipse may also mark a new phase with children — perhaps they’re becoming more independent, or you’re seeing your role as a parent evolve.
Gemini Rising — 4th House
A release in areas connected to home, family, and emotional foundations. This could look like decluttering and organising your living space — Virgo loves order, making this the perfect time to create a well organised environment.
On a deeper level, you might find yourself releasing old family beliefs or emotional patterns you’ve inherited. For example, if you were raised with the mindset that you must always work hard to prove your worth, this eclipse could help you recognise and release that narrative. It may also signal a literal change in your living situation, like letting go of a home or moving on from a place that no longer feels aligned.
Cancer Rising — 3rd House
A release in how you engage with your local community — whether that’s a neighbourhood group, schoolmates, or close connections like siblings or relatives. Virgo’s influence on service may inspire you to step back from certain roles or rethink how you contribute and serve in your immediate environment and the people in it.
The 3rd house also rules communication, thinking patterns, and learning. This eclipse could prompt you to release outdated ways of thinking or speaking — especially ones rooted in self-criticism or over-analysis. It’s a powerful time to clear mental clutter and embrace more helpful, compassionate thoughts.
Leo Rising — 2nd House
The 2nd house is about material resources, security, and what nurtures our life. Virgo’s eclipse may prompt a release in how you make money or provide for yourself. You might experience a shift in your attitudes or beliefs around money and resources.
This house also governs self-worth and value, so you could find yourself letting go of self-limiting beliefs or behaviours that no longer serve your sense of personal value. It’s a powerful time to reassess what truly nurtures your self-esteem and security, you may find you are more than just your stuff.
Virgo Rising — 1st House
This is a big one — something significant is shifting in relation to your personal journey and identity. The full moon could bring a release tied to your appearance or how you present yourself to the world. For example, if you’ve been focusing on health, this could manifest in a visible change in your appearance.
You may also experience a shift in beliefs, particularly around perfectionism or feelings of inadequacy, leading to a change in how you see and define yourself. It’s a powerful time to release limiting self-perceptions and embrace a new, more empowered version of who you are.
Libra Rising — 12th House
The 12th house is the house of our own undoing, deeply connected to the subconscious and spiritual patterns we carry. The Virgo full moon may prompt a release of past life patterns that are no longer serving you, bringing a sense of liberation. This could include patterns of not feeling good enough, perfectionism, overthinking, or self-criticism.
The 12th house also governs retreat and solitude, so you may find it difficult to carve out time for yourself during this eclipse. Outside influences could demand your attention, leaving little room to recharge or connect with your more creative, intuitive side. It’s a time to reflect on how external pressures are affecting your inner peace and consider how to reclaim your time and energy.
Scorpio Rising — 11th House
This eclipse may bring a release around how you engage with larger groups, like-minded communities, or organisations, and how you show up on the internet. Perhaps you've been so focused on serving others in these spaces that you've lost touch with your true self. The Virgo full moon may prompt you to let go of anything that’s affecting your authenticity or taking you further away from expressing your creative talents.
You might realise that some friendships no longer align with your values, or that you no longer want to be as active online or participate in groupthink. This release is a chance to reclaim your individuality and creativity, stepping away from anything that’s holding you back from expressing your unique self.
Sagittarius Rising — 10th House
This eclipse is significant as it impacts one of the angular houses. The 10th house governs your career, public image, and your role in the world. You may feel a desire to let go of beliefs around work, perfectionism, or over-giving at the expense of your well-being.
For some, this could involve a change in career or profession, or a shift in how you relate to your public image. You might decide to step down from a leadership position or change the way you're perceived in the world.
Alternatively, your worldly aspirations or the legacy you once thought you wanted to leave could shift. Perhaps you realise that spending more time with family or focusing on your home life holds more meaning than striving for a big, outward legacy. This eclipse encourages you to reevaluate your priorities and embrace a new direction that aligns more closely with your true values.
Capricorn Rising — 9th House
The 9th house governs your belief systems, what gives life meaning, and your quest for purpose. With Virgo's influence, you might find yourself overanalysing or being overly critical of your beliefs. The full moon could help release some of these old stories or limiting perspectives that have held you back, potentially shifting the way you view the meaning of life.
The 9th house also represents mentors, teachers, and inspirational figures. This full moon may prompt a release of these figures from your life — perhaps you've learned all you can from them, and it's time to move on.
Additionally, the 9th house rules travel and expanding your worldview. This eclipse may prompt a shift in your workaholic tendencies, allowing more time for travel and new experiences that help broaden your horizons.
Aquarius Rising — 8th House
The 8th house governs major life transformations, deep psychological shifts, and powerful endings or new beginnings. This eclipse may help release psychological blockages or fears that have kept you stuck, bringing hidden truths or secrets to light. These revelations could lead to significant changes, especially in areas of intimacy, shared resources, or personal power.
You may find that hidden emotional baggage or fears surface during this time, offering an opportunity for healing. Virgo’s full moon could help you let go of being overly critical, worrying about finances, or fixating on perfectionism in these areas.
The 8th house also rules the occult and hidden knowledge. This eclipse may prompt you to release old beliefs or the need to overanalyse life’s mysteries. Letting go of perfectionism can open the door to deeper, more intuitive insights.
Pisces Rising — 7th House
This is a big one, as the eclipse is happening on the cusp of your 7th house of relationships — whether with your marriage partner, business partner, or clients. The eclipse is illuminating areas where there has been imbalance, prompting you to release old patterns in these connections.
Virgo's energy is often about service, and while this can be positive, it can also lead to workaholic tendencies or over-giving, especially in relationships. The full moon may prompt changes in these areas, bringing more balance and harmony with others.
Perhaps you’ve spent too much time analysing relationships instead of facing the reality of how they are currently functioning. This eclipse invites you to let go of old, self-sacrificial patterns and embrace a more balanced, authentic way of relating to others.
Embracing the Shift and Releasing Old Stories
In chatting with clients and friends, I can confirm that people experiencing eclipses hitting their natal placements are going through significant shifts. Old stories, such as feelings of not being good enough, or past fears that have held us back from reaching our potential, are resurfacing. These may involve areas of life where we’ve struggled to be of service to others or where certain patterns have been debilitating in our own lives. Be mindful of what’s coming up for you during this time.
Wishing you a blessed eclipse season — may it bring insight, transformation, and new beginnings your way!
